The
Del Rivers Web Site began as part of a long-line of
communications starting with the (Rock group) Insider's Fan Club
(initially begun w/Shaunn Day) in the early 1980's. Del worked with a
lot of musicians due to his association with comedian Jon Pirincci’s
Musical Message Agency; as well as attempts to manage bands like The
Mods (who are currently “Intrigued”). Also, he was an assistant D-J to
Mike Murray & Mick Alber on W.I.T.R.’s “Whole Lotta Shakin’” for
many years – who interviewed several musicians.
This extended to coverage of
the entire local Rochester, NY entertainment scene, made mostly of
friends who were in some awesome Garage Bands. Some of those bands and
artists include Cousin Al (Surf/Rockabilly/Novelty), The Projectiles
(now – The Riviera Playboys/The Franks), and The Quatloos /Fertility
Rite Bros. Also featured at one time or another, was the infamous
comedy group known as Spilt Milk - in which Del was the "fourth"
member!...
Many of Del's communications
were published in "Notebook" magazine (run by Pat Thomas of Absolute
Grey); sent out as newsletters from his moves to California and
Syracuse; used as a feature column in "Shindig" Magazine (run by former
Chesterfield Kings' manager Jim Havalack); and finally as his own
yearly newsletter. Over a twenty-year period, the local Rochester Music
& Comedy scene(s) became too overwhelming for Del to cover
completely without missing somebody's appearance or CD release.
For this web site, he has opted
to cover his own projects with occasional mentions of related
musicians, comedians, etc. that may be involved directly with him. In
Del's last "paper" newsletter, he mentioned his search for a permanent
collaborating guitarist to work with (along with George Schnell/
Royals, Ed Karuth/House Cats, Darren Brennessel/McFadden's Parachute,
Chris Earl Zajkowski/Squires of The Subterrain,
Luther/ B-B-B's, and others). Hopefully, new
collaborations will occur soon, and we'll keep you posted, as events
happen.
Del is also working on another
CD release that will be limited in production (recorded at The Wave
Station in Geneseo). Some of his recordings, although limited, have
ended up in odd places & odd hands…Germany (via Brian Goodman of
The Surftones/The Ummm), China (with comedian Steffan Pappas), with
Chris Isaak, Marina Sirtis (“Troi” from Star Trek, whose boyfriend was
an L.A. musician), Chris Yambar (Simpsons’ cartoonist), and with The
Crash Test Dummies (via my sister – Bonnie Miguel)!…
Del will also keep you updated
on his comedy productions as they move along. By the way, Walt O’Brien
& The Insiders who helped to inspire his creativity are now
“Inside-Out” & still going strong. I must also mention the
energetic inspiration of New Math (with Mark Schwartz of The Rat
Kings), The Chesterfield Kings, and those who followed The Beatles to
The Stones to The Ramones to other Pop icons!
Feel free to browse and mouse
around!...
